Welcome to Museum Mischief: The Art of the Steal, where every move is a masterpiece in the making!

Game Brief

The main objective of the game is to become the ultimate art thief by strategically navigating museum exhibit halls, successfully stealing valuable masterpieces, and building the most prestigious stolen art collection. Your goal is to accumulate the highest total stolen art value without getting caught by museum security.

I had a basic idea of how I wanted the game to function and with the help of AI to write the copywriting and written assets of my board game, my idea wasn't so daunting to design!

Inspiration

Inspired by the Netflix Original Documentary Series "This Is a Robbery: The World's Biggest Art Heist"- This captivating series takes a deep dive into this daring and notorious art heist that took place in the 1990s where two men dressed as cops con their way into a Boston museum and steal a fortune in artworks.

I wanted to create a board game that captures the thrill, mystery and storytelling that this documentary took me on. Throughout the documentary, the filmmakers interweaved suspense of the heist with educational facts about the paintings stolen to connect the audience with the precious paintings lost.

Museum Mischief showcases 29 masterpiece paintings where players get to learn about art history while scheming to collect them all!

Masterpiece cards feature each of the iconic artworks with information such as the year, dimensions, medium, art period, description and the estimated value of the art pieces.

The game board resembles a museum floor where players navigate through each colour coordinated exhibits. Each exhibit showcases four main art periods; Ancient Art  (Green), Renaissance (Brown), Medieval Art (Blue) and Modern Art (Red)

Players can use Police Badge Cards strategically to intercept opponents in the act, avoid capture during a failed heist, or add strategic elements by playing cards at the right moment.

When landing on a light tile, players automatically pull a Challenge Card from the deck, triggering a special challenge related to the heist attempt.
